I work with a team of talented mechanical and electrical engineers to design, build, test, and transfer innovative products that meet user needs and achieve client goals. I help solve sticky problems in various industries and along the entire product design workflow, from early technology development to manufacturing hand-off. Across my projects, I have been responsible for concept generation and selection, electro-mechanical design, project management, and client communication. A few of these projects are described below.

Surgical Device

I led a small team that developed, prototyped, tested, and delivered novel methods to support flexible tools for robotic surgery. The tools had to support high buckling loads over long spans, and the support had to collapse down to a minimal size. We used research from the oil and gas industry to understand the physics of the problem and provide useful recommendations to the client.

Industrial Robot

I was responsible for the cabling and electronics packaging design for a late-stage Beta prototype humanoid robot, in parallel with a team redesigning the structural components. This was developed with tight space constraints, significant power and signal needs, and complex usability requirements.

Powered Orthosis

I led the early-stage mechanical and electrical design for a wearable, powered upper-body assistive device for young users with a degenerative neuromuscular disorder. This device incorporates a novel soft actuation method that maximizes transmission ratio, allowing for a minimal weight and space impact.

Exercise Machine

I was part of a team that redesigned the resistance unit for commercial exercise equipment using a magnetic eddy current brake. This involved current product tear-down and manufacturing reviews, followed by a design/build/test cycle for the new resistance unit. The new unit performed as predicted and desired.
